Our Work

Community-Based Participatory Research

  • From 2002 to 2005, we conducted the Poder es Salud/Power for Health project with Latino and African American communities.
  • In 2008-2009, we conducted La Palabra es Salud (The Word is Health) in the Latino community, a comparison of popular education versus conventional education for training community health workers.

Health Promotion Change Process

In 2007, Multnomah County Health Department adopted an organizational framework for empowering health promotion. The work of implementing the framework is called the Health Promotion Change Process. Goals are:

  • To increase our capacity to improve health by increasing people’s control over their lives and their health.
  • To promote better coordination between Health Department staff and programs.

The Community Capacitation Center coordinates the Health Promotion Community of Practice, a cross-departmental group of employees responsible for leading the Health Promotion Change Process.
