Oregon's New Smoke Free Workplace Law Begins January 1

On January 1, 2009, Oregon's new Smoke free Workplace Law will prohibit smoking in almost all public places and workplaces, including:

  • bars
  • bars in restaurants
  • bingo halls
  • 75% of hotel and motel rooms

In addition, smoking is not permitted within 10 feet of any entrance, exit, window or air intake vent.

Public place: any enclosed area open to the public.

Place of employment: any every enclosed area under the control of a public or private employer that employees frequent during the course of employment.
